McAllisters on The Viet Nam Wall

In the past, articles have been published on our Clan McAlister of America (CMA) Home Page and in the MacAlasdair Clan journal, about McAllisters (all spellings) who have served our country during the American Revolution, the Civil War, and World Wars I and II. The journal has also included articles about Canadian McAllisters who have served their country as well. The purpose of this article is to honor the service of twelve McAllisters who gave their lives for our country in the Viet Nam War. In preparing this article, I searched the Virtual Wall Internet Page. Listed below are the twelve McAllisters whose names are inscribed on the Viet Nam Wall in Washington, DC. The Wall is a popular site for many of our friends and acquaintances who have come to the nation's capital. Visiting the Wall can be a very emotional experience for most of us who served in the military during the Viet Nam War. It may be for you, as well. Like most computer programs, the Virtual Wall Internet site requires the exact spelling of each surname. Of the 19 possible spellings of our surname I used the following in my searches: McAllister, McAlister,McCallister, McAlester, McAllester, McCallester, MacAllaster, MacAllister, MacAlister, MacAlester, McAllaster, and McCollister. If I did not use your name spelling, please point your browser to http://www.thevirtualwall.org/ and enter your surname query. If you find a name that I did not, please let me know and a supplement to this article will be written. I found twelve McAllister names on the Viet Nam Wall: eight McAllisters (4 Army, 3 Marines and 1 Air Force); three McAlisters (all Army); and one McCallister, (Marine). For each of the twelve names, I checked for notes in the Remembrance Book entered by persons who have used the program. So far, there was only one. It was from Jeanie McCallister, who wrote that she believed that Lance Corporal Robert Lynn McCallister,USMC, of Oak Ridge, MO (see below) may have been a relative on her father's side. I have sent her an e-mail message requesting further information. I also requested that she submit her query to the CMA Query Page, a recently introduced feature on our Home Page. The twelve names on the Wall are listed below. Except for Robert Lynn McCallister, there are no remarks in their Remembrance Books on the Virtual Wall. The location of their names on the Wall itself is given by Panel and Row number. When you visit the Wall, guides there will help youto find the location of each inscribed name on the Wall.
